"Firecracker" - From Panhandle Equine Rescue in Pensacola, Florida
Dancing Cloud Farm Horse Rescue, Inc., works with other rescues to provide care and homes for abused, abandoned or neglected horses. We urge all horse lovers and anyone interested in fostering or adopting a horse to check out not only our webpage but also the information from other rescues. You may find a horse you're looking for--and that horse is looking for you, too!
From Panhandle Equine Rescue in Pensacola, Florida--the story of "Firecracker" from his foster parent, Cindy, who volunteers her time and talents to foster and train Panhandle Equine Rescue horses:
"A lot of people ask me about Firecracker every week since he came into my life. Firecracker was not my first rescue horse, nor will he be my last. To all of you who ask me about him and wonder what has become of him, I want you to know that today he went to his new home. He has been under the care of the rescue since December 2007. He is one of their greatest success stories and was even on the news in October. When I said goodbye to him ("The Dude", as I have been calling him for some time now), and Diane said thanks so much for taking him, I got to thinking: it is great what we can do for these animals, but beyond that, what he has done for me. So to anyone who has ever loved an animal, this is for you. Tonight, as I feed my girls, there is an empty spot in my barn. I listen to their soft nickers and I realize someone is missing. The tears I feel forming are not of sadness but of joy. Firecracker has finally found his forever home. Thanks so very much, Mike and Carol, because I know you love him. Like so many other rescue horses that will come, and to those that have already gone, Firecracker will always hold a special place in my heart. Of course, much thanks to Panhandle Equine Rescue and Diane Lowery for giving the little starved stallion a second chance."

The work at Dancing Cloud Farm Horse Rescue has been steady and rewarding and...hectic!
In our "spare" moments, we have worked on and almost completed the remodeling on the mare and foal barn (a.k.a. the "Maternity Ward"), which will be completed this month, ready to provide protection and comfort for new babies arriving at DCFHR.
The work has been exhausting at times, but seeing these horses respond, and seeing how thrilled the new owners are, keeps us going. We have had moments of not knowing how we would pay for feed and hay, moments of heartache, moments when we had so much to do that the work and decisions were overwhelming, and many moments of joy when we hear from the new owners of adopted horses. We know we are directly helping both people and animals, and we couldn't have done this without your help.
THANK YOU for your calls, notes, and e-mails offering encouragement and support. THANK YOU for your financial support. When we've had a tiring or discouraging day, when the news is not good and the finances are nonexistent, your words of encouragement lift our spirits and keep us going. We know we're doing the right thing.
