These are Dancing Cloud's babies, horses and foals who are too young to be adopted out and need to live at the farm until they've been "ripened".  We love on them, teach them the basics of being halter broke, standing quietly and cooperating for the farrier and vet, leading, being tied, and loading onto a trailer.

Working with the Green Bananas is fun because the results are rewarding.

Meet "Shamrock" (left) One of our newest additions at DCFHR is little "Shamrock," a filly, born in the wee hours of St. Patrick's Day, March 17. Her mother, Daisy, came to us already bred and we did not adopt her out because of that. This is Daisy's first baby, and she is a very protective mother!

Meet "Stormy" (below) Born at DCFHR March 27 around 6 a.m. We're calling her "Stormy" because this little filly was born after a night of storms, heavy spring rains, and just before tornado watches were posted.  Her mother, Fancy, came to us last summer as an already-bred rescue in poor condition (body score 2-3). We are so thankful that Stormy is a healthy little filly!

Update, April 10, 2009:  The new babies at DCFHR are thriving in this beautiful spring weather, adding a bit of humor to the otherwise humdrum day in the pasture.  The yearlings are tolerant of the new babies and seem to be showing off for them.  We could sit for hours and watch the little one frolic around their moms, the same moms, who last July were on the verge of starvation.  Sight like that remind us that all our efforts are really worthwhile.  Thanks for caring!

Pictured on the right is Pistol and his mother.

Often adult horses will be adopted, but it is more difficult to find a forever home for the young one due to the amount of care and training necessary for the "Green Banana"; however, Pistol has found his forever home with a retired Marine in Albany, GA.

Pistol's mother has been adopted and currently resides in Tennessee.
